National Service Scheme (NSS)

NSS was formally launched on 24th September, 1969 with the motto, "Not Me But You"

NSS is an Indian government sponsored public service program conducted by the department of Youth  Affairs and sports of the Government of India. It was introduced in the year 1969-70 making the centenary year celebration of the birth of Mahathma Gandhi. The scheme seeks to correct the phenomenon of divorce of education from society by exposing the students to the social realities. “Education through service” is the additional dimension, the NSS imparts to the education system.

Objectives:

  1. Understand the community in which they work.
  2. Understand themselves in relation to their community.
  3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve in problem solving process.
  4. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  5. Utilise  their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.
  6. Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of  responsibilities.
  7. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude.
  9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
  10. Practice national integration and harmony.

Youth Red Cross (YRC)

NSS was formally launched on 24th September, 1969 with the motto, "Not Me But You"

The Indian Red Cross is a voluntary humanitarian organization having a network of over 700 branches throughout the country, providing relief in times of disasters/emergencies and promotes health & care of the vulnerable people and communities. It is a leading member of the largest independent humanitarian organization in the world, the International Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement. The movement has three main components, the International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC), 187 National Societies and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The Mission of the Indian Red Cross is to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times all forms of humanitarian activities so that human suffering can be minimized and even prevented and thus contribute to creating more congenial climate for peace.

RRC

“Awarness and prevention of AIDS programme” was conducted by the students of Arizona University on 22nd July, 2013 in the college campus. NSS (National Service Scheme) unit of Annai Violet Arts & Science College in collaboration with the students from Arizona University organized a student exchange programme “Awareness and Prevention of AIDS” on 21st July, 2013 in the college premises. Ms. Seema and Mr. Arul Raj Louis Educational Director from (IAPA) International Alliance for the Prevention of AIDS along with 20 students from Arizona University coordinated the programme and highlighted the students on various facts on HIV AIDS.

Ecological Club (Eco Club)

Eco-club is established to motivate and stimulate students to know the importance of Environmental protection and improvement.

Eco Club plays an important role in creating environmental awareness amongst the future generation. By motivating the students to keep their surroundings green and clean by undertaking plantation of trees. Motivate students to imbibe habits and life style for minimum waste generation, source separation of waste and disposing the waste to the nearest storage point.

Objective:

1. Maintenance of herbal, domestic and medicinal gardens within the campus.
2. Encouraging the students to prepare domestic manure.
3. Organizing seminar/debates/lectures and popular talks on environmental issues.
4. Organizing rallies/human chain at public places with a view to spread environmental awareness.
5. Action based activities like tree plantation, cleanliness drives both inside and outside the campus.
6. Grow kitchen garden and maintenance of vermicomposting pits.
7. To visit fertilizers and vermicomposting preparation sites/centres.
8. Collection of cow dung and goat manure from near by places to prepare mannure.
9. To limit usage of plastic inside the campus.
10.To create Awareness amongthe people towards better Eco friendly environment.
11.To promote the level of the Health & Sanitation in rural and urban areas.
12.To createAwarenessamongthe rural farmers towards Sustainable Agriculture and Watershed Management.

Women Empowerment Cell

NSS was formally launched on 24th September, 1969 with the motto, "Not Me But You"

Women Empowerment Cell of Sanghamam College of Arts and Science is established with the motto of “towards self empowered mind“. The cell aims to empower girl students and faculty, enhance their understanding of issues related to women and to make the college campus a safe place for girls and women and to address the practical issues related to the welfare and equal opportunities for Women faculty, staff and students.
With a view to take up women’s issues and problems, the cell aims at creating awareness of their rights and duties. It also provides a platform for women to share their experiences and views regarding their status in the society. Added to it suggestions for improvement and empowerment among themselves has been given. Aiming at intellectual and social upliftment of the female students, the cell stands for facilitating women’s empowerment through guest lectures, seminars, awareness programs and other welfare activities.

To promote general well-being of female students, teaching and non-teaching women staff of the College and to provide and maintain a dignified, congenial working environment for women and enable them to explore their imminent potential in all aspects.

To train women to acquire wide range of skills and knowledge and to develop and increase their social, economic and intellectual capacities for peace, security and prosperity of mankind.

  • Identification of strong leadership, change-makers among women and girls and building their capacity.
  • To promote a culture of respect and equality for female gender.
  • To organize awareness programs on gender sensitization.
  • The provision of opportunities and programs for girls and women to be financially, mentally and emotionally empowered to promote their growth as individuals in their own right.
  • To conduct seminars and workshop to impart knowledge of opportunities and tools available and train the women.
  • Arranging seminars to create awareness on the economic, social, political, and legal rights of women.
  • Organizing different activities tomake women aware of their health, sports, self-defense etc.
  • Conducting various competitions to encourage their artistic talents for creative thinking
  • To highlight the importance of spirituality, health, hygiene and safety
  • Celebration of International Womens Day on March 8th, every year
  • To inculcate entrepreneurial attitude among young girls, scientists at the earliest so that they can be “job providers” rather than “job seekers”.
  • Counseling services for resident and non – resident students

Sports activities are given utmost importance. Our students regularly participate in all sports competitions and bring laurels to the institution and themselves. Our sports complex is a marvel in itself boasting of cricket grounds, volley ball courts, ,Throwball courts, kabaddi and athletic tracks. atmosphere and surroundings of the institution are conducive for developing sports personalities and sports activities.

Our active placement cell helps the students to get approached by renowned companies from in and around Tamilnadu. The students are trained to develop their employability skills.
The placement cell keeps the student updated on the job opportunities available in the market. We invite people from corporate to guide & instruct our students in career opportunities.

The Fine arts club purpose is to connect with anyone interested in any form of 2-D or 3-D Fine Arts, such as painting, drawing, sculpting, sewing and more. Its main objective is to inculcate the idea of imagination in each individual. It is established in such a way to bring out the talents within each individual and make them realize their excellence in the specific field of arts. FAC conducts workshops and exhibitions throughout the year. Any and all Fine Arts enthusiasts are welcome!
